Scope

The OPMED Curriculum covers:

  • Operational Family Medicine principles in deployed settings
  • Senior Medical Officer (SMO) responsibilities and planning functions
  • Medical planning integration with the Marine Corps Planning Process (MCPP)
  • Health service support (HSS) logistics and sustainment
  • Unit health management and preventive medicine in the operational environment

Relationship to Role 2 curriculum

The Role 2 clinical curriculum (presentations indexed at All Presentations) addresses clinical operations at each patient-flow node. The OPMED Curriculum addresses the medical leader and planning functions that support the entire HSS enterprise — including, but extending beyond, Role 2 capability.

Medical officers operating at the battalion or regimental level will need both curricula. Surgical and clinical staff may focus primarily on the Role 2 clinical presentations.
